The Pretani Education Programme – Avicenna and The Golden Age of Islam

The Persian Avicenna was the greatest physician of the Islamic Golden Age and may justly be considered as the Father of Modern Medicine. Some years ago, Pretani Researchers travelled to his birthplace at Bukhara in modern Uzbekistan. They travelled on President Boris Yeltsin’s train, with Russian Guards, on the Old Silk Road to China, through the Kyzylkum Desert from Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Urganch, Khiva and back again. More recently they have also been to see Avicenna’s works in Marsh’s Library, Dublin, beside St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral. We have much to thank for Islamic Civilisation.
