The Canaanite name occurs commonly in the Bible and some of the different groups were \u2013 Arameans. Moabites, Ammonites, Midanites and Edomites<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Phoenicians<\/strong> lived on the western coastal part of the Fertile Crescent and centred on the coastline of what is now known as Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Palestine and Syria. They were a strong sea-based civilisation and they would become the first society to make extensive use of alphabets. Indeed the Phoenician alphabet is considered to be one of the major ancestors of all modern alphabets. Between 600 and 500 BC \u00a0\u201cPeriplous\u201d of Himilco, the Carthaginian, a Phoenician people, made the earliest documentary reference to Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Hurrians<\/strong> were the ancient people of modern Anatolia, which is now known as modern Turkey. The earliest known music is credited to the Hurrians.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Medes<\/strong> lived in an area known as Media, which is now North Western Iran.
