Remnants of the Pretani language remain in modern times such as:

• Islay: which refers to the island that lies off the west coast of Scotland and 25 miles off Northern Ireland.
• Caledonia is the first known name of the land known today as Scotland.
• There are place-names in many parts of Great Britain, especially river names which are well known to preserve remnants of older languages, and are Pretanic in origin.
  • English examples are the river Ouse, and the Thames-Teme-Tamar-Teviot series
  • Northern Scotland examples are the rivers Isla, Affric, Liver, Nevis
• Pretani tribal names in Ireland as shown on Ptolemy’s map are: Vennicinii, Robogdium, Erdini, Nagnatae, Eblani, Autini, Usdiae and Vellabori
• Pretani tribal names in Britain as shown on Ptolemy’s map are: Caereni, Cornovii, Smertae, Lugi, Carnoncae, Decantae, Creones, Caledones, Taezali, Vacomagi, Epidii, and Venicones of modern Scotland, the latter tribe becoming the Vennicinii of modern Donegal.
• As language changed within the island now known as Ireland, the word Pretani would become Cruthin.
• As language changed within the island now known as Britain, the word Pretani would become Prydain in Britain. The word Prydain is still used today and is found in the British passport.
• An early Pretani kingdom in the island now known as Ireland was Robogdium
• A later Pretani or Cruthin kingdom in the island now known as Ireland was Dalaradia.
• This language of the Pretani would be changed, as other languages such as Latin, Brittonic, Gaelic and Germanic entered the British Isles, creating a linguistic melting pot as reflected in the Bressay inscriptions.
